From your understanding of the anatomy of the hand, you are know able to apply this knowledge to testing function clinically. For example, you may need to test nerve function following a possible nerve lesion in a patient's upper limb.

Here are five tests for motor function in the hand:

- thumb flexion
- thumb abduction
- opposition
- finger adduction
- finger abduction
